WAXING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long should my hair be?
Hair growth should be at least ¼" but not longer than ½" for the most effective waxing. Hair will be trimmed if necessary. Trim your pubic hair with scissors or clippers. Don't shave it down to nothing because at the shorter lengths the hair is very stiff and difficult to remove.
What should I expect the first time I get a bikini wax?
The specific procedure requires you to either remove your underwear, or if possible squeeze it down so that it is only a thin vertical strip. If the waxing also includes the area around the buttocks, you'll want to be prepared to roll over. Towels and privacy are provided as best can be achieved. The first time tends to give rise to a bit more discomfort than subsequent waxing appointments. Bleeding at the site of the hair removal can occur as little dots of red if your hair is especially thick or hard. It is normal to see some redness which will generally go away in a few hours.
How long will the results last?
After a client’s first waxing, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. Heat stimulates hair growth, causing hair to grow quicker in the summer than in the winter. With regular waxing the length of time between treatments will increase. Continued waxing will result in less hair re-growth.
What should I do to prepare for my bikini/Brazilian wax?
Personal hygiene is a must. Taking a shower the day of your waxing is highly encouraged with particular attention paid to the area in question including the area around the anus. Personal hygiene will make the esthetician's job a bit easier too. Depending on what hair you would like removed, select appropriate underwear styles. We provide disposable underwear for those having bikini line/genital waxing done.
What is a bikini wax?
A standard bikini wax is removal of the hair outside the bikini area on the pelvis and inner thigh.
What is a Brazilian wax?
A Brazilian bikini wax removes the hair from the entire pubic region (including the anus). Some clients prefer to remove all of the hair from the bikini area and others leave a small ‘landing’ strip in the front. Many women request a Brazilian because it gives a clean, close wax and the freedom to wear even the most revealing swimwear and lingerie. This is a very intimate type of waxing. How closely you trim, shave or wax your pubic hair is a personal preference. You should do whatever makes you comfortable, whether it's a bare look, a more natural look, or something in between.
How long does a Brazilian waxing appointment take?
Depending on the density of the hair growth, your waxing appointment will take between 15 minutes.
Does it hurt?
It will be uncomfortable but tolerable. The first time you wax is always more uncomfortable than later waxes. Many clients use a product called RELAX AND WAX NO SCREAM CREAM to ease the pain/discomfort up to 80%. NO SCREAM CREAM is a topical anesthetic lotion that absorbs into the skin and will not interfere with your waxing service. Apply 30 to 45 minutes prior to your waxing and relax. NO SCREAM CREAM is not messy, greasy, nor will it harm your clothing. If you are especially sensitive to pain, you may also choose to take a pain reliever 30-45 minutes prior to your waxing.
What are the possible side effects of waxing and how can they be minimized?
Although we can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs.
How does waxing change my hair?
After all the stages of hair growth are removed, hair removal generally lasts 3-4 weeks depending on your individual hair re-growth rate. You will notice that the time between waxing treatments will increase with continued waxing, hair growth will become sparse and eventually decrease.
What effect does waxing hair removal have on the skin?
As dead skin cells are removed in this process the skin can feel quite smooth afterwards. The hair waxing action does cause the skin to sting and many find a soothing skin healing cream to be helpful afterwards. Some persons find the skin reacts with redness and bumps which disappear after just a few hours.
How should I take care of my skin after the treatment?
For body areas, exfoliate the day after your hair removal treatment, and twice weekly thereafter, to help prevent ingrown hairs (which are especially apt to occur in the bikini area). Bath-and-shower scrubs with tiny scrubbing beads seem to be particularly effective.
What would prevent me from waxing?
We cannot wax clients that are taking Accutane, using Retin A, have just tanned in the sun or tanning bed or are on any antibiotics that contribute to increased skin sensitivity. Some physicians do not recommend hair waxing for persons suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection. Hair waxing should not be done on areas of skin affected by warts, pimples, moles or rashes or on skin that is irritated, chapped or suffering from sunburn. Never apply wax to peeling, broken skin or varicose veins. Never apply wax to the nipples when removing hair from the breast area. When in doubt, consult with your doctor prior to any waxing service.

- Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and please wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.
- Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
- Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas for at least 24 hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.
- Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs.
- Regular exfoliation may be helpful to remove dead skin so your hairs can get out above the surface of the pores and not become ingrown.
- Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation.
